B-Boy & B-Girl Oly Cred!
Hip Hop would be remiss without the legacy of breakdancing. The tomes of scholarship (academic and from the ‘hood) need not be repeated here. What does serve to be identified is that this is the first time breakdancing has been inducted into the Summer Plumpic Games, Paris, 2024. A small core of only four street athletes — two guys, two ladies — will be holding down the floor for the US. I’ll admit, this may be the first time I’ll watch the Olympics. There’s time to learn the history and importance of breakdancing. The first rounds are not until August 9, and the final rounds are on August 10. My question is, “Who are the DJs?” Following that thread, “When does DJ-ing get the spotlight in the Olympics?” On that day, I can confirm — in advance — that the Olympics will, finally, get bomb tracks. No longer will global audiences have to wade through shlocky, PR-influenced, whiny, TV-rating-boosting, horrific songs performed by B-list artists in need of a return to the world stage.
Go B-Team US!
